Happy Valentines Day 💕

Hello everyone 🥰 Happy Valentines Day 💕

For this holiday blogpost we will talk about a ancient love story written in the stars.

A very famous love story in Greek Mythology would be the story of Perseus and Andromeda. There are many constellations involved in this old dramatic romance, such as Cassiopeia, Cepheus, Pegasus and Cetus.

The story starts with a beautiful Princess. Her name is Andromeda. Her mother, Queen Cassiopeia, said that her own daughter Andromeda is much more beautiful than Poseidon’s daughters. Poseidon wasn’t happy with that claim and wanted to punish Cassiopeia and her kingdom. As a punishment, Poseidon sent the sea monster Cetus.

Andromeda’s father, King Cepheus, thought that if he would sacrifice his daughter to the sea monster, Cetus would disappear and leave their kingdom alone. Shortly before the sea monster could attack Andromeda, Perseus came to the rescue. He flew on his flying horse Pegasus.

Perseus was on his way home after one of his great adventures. When he saw the beautiful Andromeda he fell in love with her. So he made a deal with her parents. If he would be able to fight against Cetus and win, Perseus would be allowed to marry Andromeda. So Perseus fought against Cetus and won. He saved the kingdom and Andromeda’s life. But he didn’t just win the fight. He was also able to win Andromeda‘s heart.

But as it turns out, Andromeda was already promised to another man. A fight arose between the two of them. Perseus eventually won and him and Andromeda lived happily ever after.

In Greek Mythology it is told that the characters presented in this story all got a place in the sky for eternity so their story will be remembered forever. Cassiopeia got positioned upside down as a punishment for her vanity. And Andromeda and Perseus are positioned close together in the sky, where they rotate around the North Star.
